Lake City Real Estate

Lake City is a neighborhood in the very northeastern portion of Seattle.  To the east, it borders Lake Washington, which is the largest freshwater lake in western Washington.  It occupies the farthest north corner of Seattle, and is more residential than areas farther south.  Lake City has some absolutely breathtaking lakefront homes on Lake Washington, where residents can enjoy all the swimming, fishing and boating privileges the lake provides.  It is only about a fifteen minute drive to the heart of downtown Seattle, so Lake City enjoys the quieter feel of a smaller town while still having access to all the amenities a big city provides.  The Burke-Gilman trail is a highly popular trail that runs adjacent to the lake, where runners, bikers and dog walkers can enjoy the lake view during their jog/ride/stroll.  The Lake City branch of the Seattle Public Library was just remodeled and re-opened, and is a gorgeous getaway for the avid reader.  There is also a Dick’s Drive-In in Lake City, one of only 5 locations in Seattle.  This local chain cannot be found outside of Seattle, and is a local favorite.  Dick’s is no regular burger joint:  They are the operating fast-food joint in Seattle, and their prices have barely risen since they opened in 1954.  You can still get a hamburger for just $1.20, and an excellent one at that.  Lake City is also the place to go if you want to buy a car- its plethora of car dealerships are varied enough for even the pickiest buyer.

Search The MLS for Lake City Homes and Condos

Homes in Lake City are as varied as they come.  The homes become more expensive the farther you get toward the lake, and more affordable the farther away you are.  The range is incredible.  Waterfront homes on Lake Washington can offer the highest luxury that you can afford, while 4 blocks out are available condominiums for the thriftiest buyer.  Lake City has a distinct, community feel.  For example, the Thornton Creek Watershed, which is the largest watershed in Seattle, is located in Lake City.  The citizens of Lake City have donated countless hours and dollars into its restoration to improve the environment.  Lake City homes are always going to have lakefront access, if not direct lakefront, because of public parks like Matthew Beach and Magnuson Park, where there are public beaches for everyone.  Magnuson Park even has one of the biggest off-leash dog parks (with a beach) anywhere, and has a total of nine acres for running and playing.  Whether you are an animal lover, and lover of the outdoors, a family person, a lover of privacy or an active community member, buying a home in Lake City might be the right choice for you.

Lake City Foreclosures, Bank Owned and REO's

Bank owned homes in Lake City are more available lately, which is good news for the prudent home buyer.  While the economy is still struggling to right itself, it makes for a good time to buy a home.  Lake City foreclosures are higher than usual, which can create some unique opportunities.  Going through the process or buying an REO home (or foreclosed home), can often be time consuming.  Always known what you are getting into.  However, if you are a patient buyer, you can often find your dream home for an unprecedented deal.  Short sales in Lake City are another route to consider, and it is easier on the seller this way.  In a short sale, the seller, lender and bank all have to be in agreement.  While it’s not for everyone, it is a great idea to discuss buying a distressed home in Lake City if you are looking to save some money.
