Magnolia Real Estate

Magnolia is the second largest recognized neighborhood in Seattle.  It is located on the peninsula just northwest of downtown Seattle.  The north side of Magnolia is bordered by the Lake Washington Ship Canal, and is across the water from Ballard.  Puget Sound is to the West, and the south side ends in Elliot Bay.  Magnolia has a lot of waterfront possibilities, to say the least.  This area is known for its more affluent population, understandably because of its sheer amount of waterfront and proximity to downtown Seattle.  Discovery Park takes up a large portion of the area, and is Seattle’s biggest public park.  It covers 534 acres, and is home to a plethora of native Seattle wildlife.  The park offers unparalleled views of Puget Sound, and is covered in hiking trails.  Magnolia Village is the commercial center of the neighborhood, and is home to some of the finest restaurants in Seattle.

Magnolia Homes and Condos

Homes in Magnolia are known to be on the more expensive end.  With three out of the four directions featuring water views, and the remaining eastern direction featuring views of the city, historic and sweeping homes are prevalent.  This neighborhood is highly popular for people that want a quiet, private atmosphere with quick access to the downtown Seattle life.  Those home buyers who are looking for a historic home should consider Magnolia, since Victorian, Tudor and Queen Anne style homes are easily found here.  There are still condos available in the area, despite the popularity of quieter family homes.  Most of the condo buildings were built a few decades ago, but still retain the charm and historic feel of the neighborhood.   There is considerably small turnover rate for the homes in Magnolia since once you move in, you won’t want to leave.  Magnolia is a great place for a forever home, and the statistics support this.  There are three bridges that connect Seattle with Magnolia, so there is even a bit of an island feel to living here.  There are two main neighborhoods in Magnolia, called Briarcliff and Southeast Magnolia.  Both are great places to live with easy access to Discovery Park.  With views of the Olympic Mountains, and sunset views over the ocean, this neighborhood is a perfect place to spend the rest of your life.

Magnolia Foreclosures, Short Sales and REO's

Homes in foreclosure in Magnolia are more popular of late.  While this sounds bad, this is actually good news for the potential home buyer.  Bank owned homes are often priced far below market value, offering a buyer unprecedented deals on their dream home.  It makes homes that seem unreachable, affordable for someone willing to go through the process.  Another route to consider is looking at short sales, which is easier on the seller.  A short sale means that everyone is in agreement to sell the house, including the seller, lender and bank.  Short sales still offer prices far below the expected price.  Buying a distressed home in Magnolia is definitely something to mull over if you have a little more time, and don’t want to break the bank over your dream house.
